These surveys provide two views of the area being surveyed - a plan (similar to a standard overhead view map) showing the horizontal location of various features, and a profile that provides a vertical "side view" of the same area, noting elevation and subsurface features.
These views, when correlated, form what is essentially a three-dimensional survey.
A plan & profile is most often used to plot an extended linear feature such as a roadway or pipeline.
Construction stakeout demands accuracy and consistency for a high-quality end result.
