These services include but are not limited to representing our clients who are having custom vessels constructed or major refits to either wood or fiberglass vessels. We also provide captain services by the hour, day, or longer as required for delivery, personal services, or hands-on training. Vessel surveys are performed for pre-purchase, insurance coverage, refinancing, donations, and estate settlements.

We also represent the insured or the insurer for damage claims of all kinds. Our goal is to do whatever is required to represent our client's interest in a complete and professional manner. We are members of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) and are accredited in the Standards published for the Marine Manufacturers Association of America by the American Boat and Yacht Council.

It is these Standards we use as guidelines for construction and refit projects, and surveys. We also use the mandatory standards promulgated by the United States Coast Guard, Code of Federal Regulations, and voluntary standards published by the National Fire Protection Association.
Services
As owner of GB Marine Services, Inc. and Maryland Marine Surveyors, LLC, William (Bill) Woodside is the principal marine surveyor.
He has over 40 years of marine experience in both power and sail.
Bill has worked closely with local boat builders on Maryland's Eastern Shore and designed and oversaw the construction of his personal 40' fisherman / cruiser "Doll-Fin", along with construction of vessels for several clients.
Bill has in-depth knowledge of both wood and fiberglass construction and has the ability to handle large jobs requiring coordination of multiple surveyors with various specialties, endorsements, and at the highest levels of education as it applies to the job.
Time and additional expense can be saved by preparing the vessel for inspection and making her more accessible.
Arrange to present a clean, shipshape boat, and have all papers and miscellaneous gear ready.
If applicable, you will need to make arrangements with the marina to haul the vessel for bottom inspection, and retain a captain for sea trials.
Lockers and cabin areas should be cleared of all miscellaneous gear.
The surveyor should never be asked to prepare a boat for inspection.
The surveyor may request minor dismantling of interior ceilings, headliners, flooring, etc. in order to gain access to the suspected areas.
