The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS), a statewide professional organization, exists for the purpose of supporting, improving and enhancing the profession, its members, and the practice of land surveying. PSLS focuses on providing education, legislative involvement, enhancing the public awareness, and the promulgation of the ethics of the profession.
Services
The Pennsylvania Land Surveyors' Foundation was established to promote, improve, and encourage the profession and practice of land surveying in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Foundation seeks to create an awareness of the opportunities available in the land surveying profession, provide financial assistance to persons pursuing an education in land surveying, make grants and contributions to educational institutions to enhance their curriculum related to land surveying, and provide financial assistance to persons or institutions for research in land surveying.

Land Surveying includes boundary retracement, land subdivision, topographic, construction layout, geodesy, hydrography, mining, forensics, and other specialized fields requiring accurate and reliable location of features and objects on the land.
According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there were over 44,000 Professional Land Surveyors in 2014 with a median pay rate of $57,000 per year.
The average age of today's surveyors is 58 years old, which means that in less than 10 years, nearly half of the Surveyors now employed will be retiring, opening up positions for more than 20,000 new professionals.

This position statement attempts to define the stance of PSLS when it comes to unlicensed practitioners offering and performing positioning and mapping services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The PSLS Geospatial Committee believes the statement and the panel session are stepping stones leading the surveying and geospatial communities to common ground where we can work together for the benefit of everyone utilizing geospatial data and technologies in Pennsylvania.

An individual of good character who is a student at any school in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania enrolled in a course in surveying and/or related subjects or a graduate student enrolled in a formal graduate surveying program.

The Boundary Retracement Principles and Procedures for PA book needs to be edited and updated for the next printing.
Volunteers will be asked to update and proof one or two chapters of the book or possibly update a section of the appendix.
The PA Manual of Practice needs to be updated to be more in line with NCEES standards and to address changes in the industry.
Volunteers are needed to work with the Chair of the Standards of Practice committee on this project.
The more volunteers participate in this endeavor, the more comprehensive the final document will be.
