The firm performs pre-purchase condition surveys which encompass a complete and thorough examination of the boat to determine its condition and seaworthiness. We also perform Condition and Valuation ("C&V") inspections for financial institutions and the insurance industry as well as damage claim investigations. In addition, appraisals are performed for the purpose of donation, litigation, and estate settlement.
We perform as consultants for on-going repair projects, construction projects and projects involving restoration of vintage vessels. These have included "PRINCIPIA" owned by the Independence Seaport Museum, "ADVENTURE" a 120" Gloucester fishing schooner owned by the Gloucester Adventure, "SHERMAN ZWICKER" a 130" Nova Scotia Fishing Schooner owned by the Grand Banks Schooner Museum, and the "MAYFLOWER".
Some of the other vintage vessels that the firm has surveyed are the "USS CONSTITUTION", Capt. Cousteou's "CALYPSO", the steamer "TICONDEROGA" for the Shelburn Museum and the "BILL OF RIGHTS" for the Los Angeles Maritime Institute.

Services
Once a vessel is under ownership, an insurance company may ask for an updated survey every few years.
This is called a Condition and Value inspection or "C&V" inspection.
In this inspection, the insurance company is interested in the general condition of the vessel and if there are any areas of the vessel that provide a safety issue or hazardous condition to the vessel.
Depending on the requirements of the Insurance Company, this inspection may not require a haul out of the vessel.
This type of inspection is also used by financial institutions at times of refinancing of the vessel.

At times when a vessel has suffered damage, a surveyor may be called in to assess the extent of the damage and the direction of the repairs.
The client in this case may either be an insurance company that has called on the surveyor to look at the vessel or it may be the owner of the vessel that wants a surveyor to look at the vessel in his behalf.
Once the damage has been assessed and the repairs outlined the surveyor may be called on to oversee the repairs.
