San Juan Surveying, LLC, located in Friday Harbor, Washington, specializes in all aspects of land and property surveying. We offer a full time staff with more than 40 years of combined surveying experience in San Juan County. We work on any of the islands, both ferry and non-ferry serviced, and welcome the opportunity to travel to the outer islands using our company boat or by plane charter.

San Juan Surveying was started in 1972 by John L. Thalacker, PLS. In 2011, Mr. Thalacker's apprentice, Robert J. Wilson, acquired the company upon John's retirement. We stay up to date on the regulations of San Juan County's land use and development codes and maintain positive associations with permit coordinators, town and county staff, architects, engineers, realtors and contractors.

At San Juan Surveying, LLC, we utilize the latest in surveying technology including RTK (Real Time Kinematic) GPS, Total Robotic Stations, LiDAR and CADD programs. These technologies enhance our ability to remain on time, on budget and deliver a superior quality of work.

Robert "Bob" Wilson started his career in the surveying profession in the late 1980s while enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
After his enlistment, Bob earned his Bachelor of Science from Central Washington University.
Later Bob and his wife Shannon moved to the San Juan Islands and started a family.
He is a 7th generation Islander and has a tremendous amount of local knowledge pertaining to the history of the land which benefits his clients.
Bob truly enjoys his profession as a land surveyor because he is able to combine his passion of the outdoors, his finite math skills, a love for history and meeting new people.
Lee was involved in land use planning for San Juan County for 31 years, where she answered questions, reviewed land divisions, docks, commercial uses and appeals.
Throughout her years at the county, land use regulations underwent many changes.
Her extensive knowledge and understanding of these complex land use rules prove incredibly helpful to our clients.
Lee has a BS in Animal Science from Utah State University and a teaching credential from CSU, Chico.
She and her husband bought land in 1988 and spent years building their home, pay as you go.
San Juan Surveying offers expert witness services for land disputes.
Because of extensive research on prior cases, we have access to many sources of information including US and Canadian regional and federal archives, surveys, and recent and historical maps and aerial photographs.
